QH recently spoke with Shadi Suleman, senior general manager, Four Seasons Hotel Doha, to discuss the hotel’s unique offerings, brand values, recent updates, and future plans.

QH: Tell us five reasons for guests to choose your hotel in Doha.
Suleman:
Our iconic property, the “Grande Dame” of Doha, boasts nearly 20 years of history. We stand out with a prime location, luxurious accommodations, diverse dining options, and top-notch spa and wellness facilities. However, our true distinction lies in our commitment to the guest experience. From personalised pre-arrival preparations to creating memorable stays, we forge emotional connections with our guests. Our dedication to exceptional service, recently earning us a 5-star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, underscores our focus on personalised hospitality.

QH: What are your brand values, something that no other hospitality player in Doha has?
Suleman:
At Four Seasons, our brand values distinguish us in the hospitality industry. Since our early days, the focus has been on managing small and medium-sized hotels with exceptional quality. Our founder, Isadore Sharp, believed that our true differentiator would be our people and their service, beyond just the product.
We follow the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” This principle guides our interactions, ensuring genuine care and meaningful connections. This authentic approach is unique to Four Seasons in Doha.

QH: What have been the expansions/refurbishments of your property in the past year? What do you think about 2024? Are there any plans to modify/upscale your property?
Suleman: In the past year, we have made several updates to enhance our guests’ experience. 2023 saw the successful debut of Curiosa by Jean-Georges, a vibrant Latin-American restaurant, and the opening of Le Deli Robuchon, a collaboration with the renowned Joël Robuchon brand. We also transformed our pool area, improving both its aesthetics and convenience.
Looking ahead to 2024, we have planned several large-scale projects during the low season. We will renovate our signature all-day dining restaurant, Elements, set to reopen in Q4. Additionally, enhancements are planned for our Spa & Wellness Centre to maintain its status as a top relaxation spot with a refreshed ambience.
We remain committed to exploring opportunities to elevate our property and look forward to the future at Four Seasons hotel Doha.

QH: Where do you see your property/brand in the next 2 years?
Suleman:
In the next two years, Four Seasons is set for significant growth and innovation. With the recent addition of Four Seasons at The Pearl-Qatar, we’re expanding our presence in Doha into the residential space, aligning with our strategy to diversify our business model.
Globally, Four Seasons is expanding in luxury offerings. We’re introducing new private jet itineraries and launching the Four Seasons Yacht in 2025. We’re also developing standalone residential properties and offering unique experiences such as our driving experience for motor enthusiasts. Our retail strategy allows guests to engage with our brand beyond their stay, such as purchasing Four Seasons beds for home use.
In the Middle East, our ambitious pipeline includes new properties in Saudi Arabia at prestigious locations such as Madinah, Red Sea at Shura Island, NEOM at Sindalah, and AMAALA at Triple Bay, reinforcing our commitment to enriching the luxury hospitality landscape in the region.

QH: Talk us through the timeless business lessons the pandemic taught and how your property has adapted to those.
Suleman: The pandemic was a difficult time in modern history. Despite the hardships, it presented profound business lessons that have reshaped our approach at Four Seasons hotel Doha. We were fortunate to undergo renovations during this period, allowing us to maximise this downtime to enhance our facilities.
One of the key lessons learned was the importance of the local market as a business driver during such times. Here in Doha, we have always been successful, where Qataris are loyal clients of the hotel.
