University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) hosted an impactful event, ‘Shaping Tomorrow: STEM powered Women’, celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Organised by the Doha Women Forum, the event gathered influential female leaders in STEM to inspire, mentor, and empower the next generation of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The event featured a dynamic panel discussion with leading women in STEM from academia, industry, and entrepreneurship. The discussion highlighted their journeys, the challenges they have overcome, and the critical role of mentorship in shaping future female leaders in STEM. The event was opened by Dr. Rosie Bateson, Dean, College of General Education, who reaffirmed the university’s commitment to fostering inclusive and diverse talent in STEM.
“Empowering women in STEM is not just about representation—it is a recognition of their ability to excel in STEM disciplines and to unlock the full potential of our society. UDST is dedicated to equipping young women with the knowledge and skills to innovate and to be role models in the fields of science and technology,” said Dr. Rosie Bateson.
H.E. Javier Carbajosa Sanchez, Ambassador of Spain to Qatar, delivered a compelling keynote speech, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in STEM and the role of women in driving global innovation.
“Women in STEM are shaping the future, breaking barriers, and leading industries worldwide. Events like this are essential to fostering an inclusive and forward-thinking ecosystem where women can thrive” remarked H.E. Javier Carbajosa.
The Doha Women Forum, led by its founder Conchita Ponce, has played a key role in highlighting the growing impact and contributions of women in STEM in Qatar. The initiative supports Qatar’s ongoing investment in STEM education, research, and innovation, fostering an environment where women can actively participate, lead, and drive advancements across various scientific and technological fields.
“The presence of accomplished women in STEM today is more than just inspiring—it’s a roadmap for the young women of tomorrow. By sharing their journeys, these role models are proving that STEM is a space where women belong, lead, and innovate,” said Conchita Ponce.

Exhibitors from different schools participated in the STEM Exhibition, with The Next Generation School receiving the Excellence in STEM Showcase Award. The winner was awarded QR3,000 and a certificate. Dr. Dhabia Al Mohannadi emphasized the critical role of sustainable engineering in shaping the future: “Interdisciplinary collaboration and sustainable innovation are key to solving global challenges. Encouraging more women in STEM is not just about equality—it’s about bringing new perspectives to drive progress.”
Narjiss Sallah, a leading expert in AI, spoke about the transformative power of artificial intelligence: “AI is reshaping industries at an unprecedented rate. The more diverse our talent pool, the more innovative and ethical our solutions will be. Women in AI will play a crucial role in shaping responsible and inclusive technology.”
Closing the event, the Doha Women Forum reaffirmed its commitment to driving initiatives that empower women, foster mentorship, and expand opportunities for women in STEM and beyond. By providing a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and inspiration, the Forum continues to shape a future where women are leaders, innovators, and changemakers across diverse fields.
