Leaf through the creations of some dreamers who’ve crafted reality exactly as they’ve visualised and laid them out for the world to admire and enjoy – from home decor items to abaya design; from ceramic arts to organic beauty products.

Inaãra’s journey: Design as empowerment & sustainability

In conversation with Rabia Fathima Qazi

Décor as career:
As an artist, I have always viewed décor as another art form, one that tells a story, leaving a lasting impression, and pulls others into its energy. Home décor is a form of self-expression which gives the woman a chance to voice her personal preferences, articulate her worldview, and surround herself with elements that help her achieve her end goal – be it energising, calming, healing, or retreating. I’ve personally used décor as my tool to empowerment and exercised the power of choice.

Design inspiration:
Inaãra is a décor & lifestyle label supporting the revival of heritage crafts created by small communities in India. Our selection is firstly based on the uniqueness of the craft. Second, we focus on bringing textiles that are suited for life in the Middle East. This includes breathable handwoven textiles which are predominantly organic. We bring flatwoven wool dhurries for their dust repellent and with thermodynamic properties. By working with indigenous communities, we bring weaves & prints that have evolved over centuries and speak on behalf of these communities.

Where to from here in 24 months:
We are now designing our own custom line of products tailored for the middle eastern customer and expect to have this implemented across all our verticals. We aim to establish our label firmly as the regional leader in affordable handcrafted luxury with sustainability at its core and ethical sourcing as a fundamental precept. With Mizna Nizar having joined the Inaãra team, we are working to cater to the B2B space. And through all of this, we hope to have sufficiently educated the customer on identifying quality and choosing healthier, and more sustainable options for their homes.
