Azqa Haroon recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at Al Shurfa Arabic Lounge, and it was truly an evening to remember.
The lounge’s laid-back, luxurious atmosphere reflects the sophisticated tranquillity of Al Jomrok Boutique Hotel, which offers a stylish sanctuary in the heart of Souq Waqif.
Stepping inside, I was instantly transported to a haven where authentic flavours and serene relaxation seamlessly intertwined. What truly elevated the experience, however, were the breathtaking views of the sprawling Souq Waqif from the outdoor seating area. Watching the bustling energy below as the evening unfolded was simply captivating. Alternatively, the indoor seating offered equally stunning panoramic views, overlooking the best of Doha’s Corniche and its glittering skyline. It was a visual feast to accompany the culinary one.
Mezzeh & starters
My culinary journey began with a selection of mezzeh and starters that showcased the freshness and vibrancy of Arabic cuisine.
Crispy fried chicken is a delightful surprise. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, enhanced by the unique combination of a sweet and savoury date and chili glaze. The garlic mayo added a creamy richness, while the spring onion and pomegranate seeds provided a refreshing crunch and burst of flavour. It was, without a doubt, a well-balanced and innovative take on fried chicken.
Hummus ‘n’ tomato is a classic elevated to an art form. The hummus was incredibly smooth and creamy, infused with the subtle warmth of garlic confit. The spicy roast tomato added a tangy and slightly sweet counterpoint, while the crispy onion and chickpeas offered a textural contrast. Served with warm, fluffy pitta bread, it was the perfect dish for sharing (though I could have easily devoured it all myself!) and savouring the rich flavours.

Mains: A feast for the senses
The main courses at Al Shurfa Arabic Lounge are generous and satisfying.
The mix grill platter is a carnivore’s dream, and while I shared it, it would be perfect for a really hungry diner. The lamb chops were succulent and grilled to perfection, while the Shish Taouk was tender and flavourful. The Lamb Kofta and Beef Kebab offered a delightful variety of textures and spices. Served with grilled onion and tomato, fresh parsley leaves, and a creamy garlic sauce, it was a hearty and delicious representation of grilled meats. The accompanying French fries were a welcome addition, rounding out the plentiful plate.
Chicken shawarma soft tacos is a creative and modern twist on traditional shawarma that I found fun and flavourful. The tortilla wraps were soft and warm, filled with flavourful shawarma chicken, crisp iceberg lettuce, and juicy cherry tomatoes. The combination of sumac, sriracha & tahini mayo, and pomegranate seeds created a symphony of sweet, spicy, and tangy flavours that danced on my palate.
Al Shurfa burger held its own in this Arabic-inspired setting, which was unexpected but appreciated. The beef pattie was juicy and well-seasoned, complemented by the melted Monterey Jack cheese, fresh lettuce, and tomato. The red capsicum paste added a unique depth of flavour, and the grilled onion provided a touch of sweetness. Served with French fries, it was a classic done right.

Desserts: A sweet ending
No meal is complete without a sweet ending, and Al Shurfa Arabic Lounge offers several decadent options that satisfied my sweet tooth.
Kunafa lotus cheesecake, a fusion dessert, combines the best of both worlds. The creamy cheesecake was perfectly balanced with the crispy, sweet Kunafa and the irresistible Lotus topping. It was a rich and satisfying dessert that left a lasting impression.
Um Ali is both comforting and indulgent as it was soaked in a creamy, sweet sauce and topped with nuts. It was warm, comforting, and the perfect way to end a flavourful meal.
Overall impression
My dining experience at Al Shurfa Arabic Lounge was truly exceptional, a seamless blend of delicious, artfully presented food and gracious service. The sophisticated yet relaxed ambience, enhanced by the stunning panoramic views of both Souq Waqif and the Corniche skyline, made it unforgettable. It’s a standout Doha destination for anyone seeking authentic flavours and a memorable atmosphere. I’m already looking forward to my return.
