Azqa Haroon had the opportunity to savour the exquisite flavours at Gymkhana, Katara Hills, LXR Hotels & Resorts, Doha, Qatar. Inspired by the elite clubs of India where high society members socialise, eat, drink, and play sport, Gymkhana has held a Michelin star since 2014 for its classic and contemporary Indian cuisine.

With an inviting setting featuring an open kitchen, stone walls, and regal chandeliers, Gymkhana promises an unforgettable dining experience. Open daily from 7 am to 11 pm, this restaurant masterfully blends modern and traditional Indian cuisine.

A symphony of starters

The dining experience at Gymkhana began with an array of appetisers that set the tone for the evening. The shrimp and scallops were perfectly cooked, boasting a delightful balance of spices that paired beautifully with the refreshing raita. The chicken tikka, accompanied by sprouts, showcased a rich blend of flavours and textures, while the paneer tikka with fig and cashew nut, and corn chaat offered a vegetarian delight that was both exotic and satisfying. The tandoori masala lamb chops with walnut chutney were succulent and perfectly seasoned, leaving a lasting impression.

Mains that captivate the palate

The main courses at Gymkhana were nothing short of extraordinary. The Hyderabadi lamb shank biryani stood out with its tender lamb and aromatic rice, delivering an explosion of flavours with every bite. The chicken butter masala was creamy and rich, a classic that never disappoints. The Keralan lobster moilee was a standout dish, with its delicate lobster meat bathed in a fragrant coconut curry, offering a taste of coastal India. Every dish was unique and special in its own way, showcasing the diverse culinary heritage of India.

Delectable desserts and refreshing mocktails

Gymkhana’s desserts were the perfect end to an exceptional meal. The badaam kheer was rich and creamy, with a luxurious touch of gold leaf that elevated the dish. The saffron kulfi falooda was equally delightful, offering a sweet and aromatic treat that was hard to resist. The mocktails at Gymkhana were refreshing and innovative, adding a unique twist to the dining experience.

An exceptional adventure

With indoor and outdoor seating that can accommodate a wide capacity, Gymkhana is the perfect place to treat someone to exotic Indian food. The food is presented in an eye-appealing manner, enhancing the overall dining experience. The starters, especially the keema naan and Amritsari shrimp & scallops, were favorites, while the freshly prepared breadbasket from their tandoor was a highlight. Every main course was distinct and delicious, with the lamb shank biryani and lobster moilee being exceptionally tasty. Overall, Gymkhana offers an exceptional dining experience that is sure to impress.
