Azqa Haroon headed to Al Jalsa Lounge at Sharq Village & Spa, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, for an afternoon tea that was the perfect blend of elegance, relaxation, and a touch of Parisian charm. The afternoon was all about enjoying quality time, indulging in sweets, and having a cosy, girly catch-up with friends.
Created by head pastry chef Omer Aydemir, this afternoon tea service is available daily from 3pm to 8pm, presenting a tasteful blend of tradition and innovation in a tranquil ambience complemented by live piano music. Each element – from the savoury bites to the artistic desserts – displays chef Aydemir’s dedication to culinary finesse.
Savoury selection and artful sandwiches
The experience kicked off with a lineup of adorable, bite-sized sandwiches – each one crafted for a delicate taste. The saffron bun with egg and mayonnaise came with a classic taste given a chic makeover, while the curried chicken and mango chutney sandwich brought a pop of colour and a fun hint of spice. And, of course, the cucumber and cream cheese sandwich was light and refreshing, a perfect pause before diving into the scones and sweets.
Scones and sweets
My favourite part of the spread? The warm scones, hands down! Served with rich clotted cream, strawberry and apricot jams, and an extra sprinkle of girly giggles, these were pure buttery bliss.
We lingered over each bite, letting the sweetness set the mood. Then came the stars of the dessert table: the pistachio brenton cake with a crisp sable crust and creamy ganache, followed by chef Aydemir’s signature Seyyah Cake, which combined fluffy chocolate mousse and crunchy layers – blissful and satisfying. The raspberry-laden framboiser cake added a fruity burst, and, of course, there were colourful French macarons that felt almost too pretty to eat (almost!).
