In conversation with Adel Kassab, head of interior design of Highness Engineering Consultants, Qatar, a consulting agency in architecture, engineering and interior design with an impressive product portfolio including Katara Hills and Maysan Resort tells QH about his design approach and philosophy, and more importantly, his design process.

Creativity is at the heart of any design guru and Adel Kassab, head of interior design of Highness Engineering Consultants, Qatar, oozes that – rather effortlessly. And creativity is never a solo deal – unless it combines innovation as its all-time partner.

Speaking about infusing creativity and innovation into his designs at Highness Qatar, Kassab is emphatic that creativity and innovation both are integral to their design approach. “We foster creativity by promoting open collaboration, embracing diverse perspectives, and encouraging risk-taking. Our team leverages continuous learning, user-centric design principles, and cutting-edge technology to push the boundaries of engineering innovation. By integrating these strategies, we deliver imaginative solutions that exceed client expectations and contribute positively to the built environment,” informs Kassab.

Designing a whole lot of upmarket and exclusive projects such as hotels, resorts, museums or palaces, study in period architecture plays a big role. Kassab attests this by saying, “It is one of my main tasks at Highness Engineering Consultants, my research into period architecture is fundamental in designing palaces and museums.”

Elaborating the role that such study plays in his design approach, Kassab explains that it enriches our understanding of historical context, inspires authentic designs, informs preservation efforts, and fosters meaningful engagement with stakeholders. By integrating insights from period architecture, we create spaces that honour heritage while meeting contemporary needs.

Design process

Highness Engineering Consultants’ design process, informs Kassab, is characterised by a meticulous approach that emphasises collaboration, innovation, and attention to detail.

“We begin by thoroughly understanding our clients’ needs and aspirations, gathering insights and feedback throughout the process. Our multidisciplinary team leverages cutting-edge technology and creative thinking to conceptualise designs that balance aesthetic appeal with functionality and sustainability. Through iterative refinement and rigorous analysis, we translate these concepts into reality, employing advanced engineering techniques and collaborating closely with stakeholders to ensure seamless execution. The result is transformative spaces that exceed expectations and enrich the built environment,” says Kassab.

On his inspiration to his designs, and his method of staying ahead of trends in the industry, Kassab is crystal clear, pegging three separate, yet interrelated aspects: commitment to innovation, sustainability, and client-centricity.

“I draw inspiration from diverse sources, including nature, culture, and technology, to create thoughtful and impactful solutions. To stay ahead of industry trends, I prioritise continuous learning, actively engaging with emerging technologies, attending conference and international exhibitions worldwide, and fostering partnerships with industry leaders. By remaining agile and adaptive, I ensure that our designs reflect the latest advancements while meeting the evolving needs of our clients and the broader community,” remarks Kassab.

Project of pride

In Kassab’s mind, one project that stands out is their Seychelles project, which, according to Kassab is “poised to become the most luxurious resort in the world. It’s a culmination of our team’s collective vision, passion, and expertise in the industry. With every aspect of the project engaging all the senses, embodying our dedication to perfection.”

Speaking about design contributions to shaping the architectural landscape of Qatar and the region, Kassab tells QH, “At Highness Engineering Consultants, we integrate innovative approaches, sustainable practices, and cultural sensitivity into our projects, we aim to set new benchmarks for excellence and inspire future developments. Our commitment to creating iconic landmarks that blend functionality with aesthetic appeal reflects our dedication to enriching the built environment and leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come.”
