Qatar CSR Summit Concludes Successfully: Winners Revealed for Qatar CSR Awards

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, patronized the successful conclusion of Qatar CSR Summit 2024 on May 2 at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC). With the theme ‘The Future of CSR in a Circular Economy’, the summit featured over 65 local and international speakers, drawing more than 4,350 attendees. The event garnered praise for its rich content, including panel discussions and workshops, with participation from experts and speakers from various countries, including Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait.

Commenting on this, Haidar Meshaimesh, General Manager of IFP Qatar, the company organizing the summit, said: “This year, Qatar CSR Summit has emerged as a regional summit that solidifies Qatar’s position as a regional hub for corporate social responsibility and reaffirms Qatar University’s leading role in promoting social responsibility across the region. This places a greater responsibility on us to develop the summit and expand its scope next year.”

On the second day of the event, the Qatar CSR Awards official Gala dinner took place at the Sheraton Resort & Convention Centre, recognizing companies and institutions for outstanding corporate social responsibility initiatives across diverse sectors. During the ceremony, Dr. Saif Al-Hajari, CEO of Qatar National Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, expressed gratitude to sponsors and supporters, commending their contributions to social development through the initiatives and programs highlighted during the event.

He noted that the Qatar CSR Awards ceremony “comes to highlight these efforts to be an example to be followed for how to serve society, the environment and people, and how each of his position, whether in the public sector, government, private commercial, scientific academic, volunteer non-profit, can contribute constructively and positively to providing a better life, a fairer and more sustainable economy for the various segments of society, and to honour those who have contributed to the development of Qatar’s social responsibility and sustainability agenda.”

Qatar CSR Awards featured 24 categories spanning various economic sectors. The organizing committee received 114 nominations from entities in both public and private sectors. Winners were selected by a jury of 20 professors from Qatar University’s College of Business and Economics. Notable awardees include Ashghal for Best CSR Initiative in Public Sector, Innovation Café for Best NGO Initiative, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar for Most Innovative CSR Initiative, and QNB Group for Best CSR Initiative in Banking and Financial Sector. Other winners across different sectors include Aamal, Snoonu, Lulu Group International, Alfardan Medical with Northwestern Medicine, Al Abdulghani Motors, Sika Qatar, United Development Company, Aqua Sports Qatar, Caravane Earth, Talabat, Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality Public Parks Department, Al Jazeera Media Institute, QNCC, and A101.

Mubadara for Social Impact and the UNESCO Chair on Governance and Social Responsibility in Sport announced a strategic partnership to support research and consultancy in corporate social responsibility, with a focus on sports’ social impact in Qatar and the wider region. The UNESCO Chair, hosted by Hamad Bin Khalifa University, aims to improve governance practices in sports and promote socially responsible program designs prioritizing sports.

Jack Saba, General Manager of Mubadara for Social Impact, said: “We are pleased to collaborate with this UNESCO Chair, the only one dedicated to social responsibility in sport worldwide. This will add credibility to our endeavors while enhancing our performance and development strategy.”

Dr. Christos Anagnostopoulos, the founder and director of UNESCO Chair on Governance and Social Responsibility in Sport, stated: “One of the key objectives of the Chair is to establish a sustainable network between academics, practitioners, and other key stakeholders with a common interest in good governance and social responsibility in sport at a national and international level. Mubadara is the most influential organization on matters concerning corporate social responsibility in the country, and we can realize our objective much easier and more impactfully through and together with them.”
