Team Qatar is for the win! It secures three coloured medals at the Arab Table Tennis Championship 2023 and earns medals at the South Korea Taekwondo Championship 2023.
Arab Table Tennis Championship 2023
Last month, the Qatari table tennis team achieved an impressive feat at the ongoing 17th Arab Table Tennis Championship held in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, with participation from nine Arab teams. Qatar secured three coloured medals: Mohammed Al Sulaiti earned two silvers in the U-13 singles category and Ahmed Eid in the U-15 singles category, while Sultan Al Kuwari secured a bronze in the U-15 singles category.
Notably, in the men’s category, Mohammed Abdelwahhab advanced to the final by triumphing over Bahrain’s Rashid Sanad in the semi-finals. He also emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over Jordan’s Ziad Aziz in the ultimate match.
During the nine-nation tournament, Team Qatar secured a total of 11 medals, comprising 5 silver medals and 5 bronze medals.
South Korea Taekwondo Championship 2023
In the recently concluded South Korea Open Championship for taekwondo, Qatari taekwondo athlete Noor Nizar secured the prestigious gold medal. This championship, which saw the participation of 355 players from 29 countries, marked a significant accomplishment for Noor. She achieved this remarkable feat by dominating the female sparring category in the over 68kg weight class, ultimately prevailing over Canadian contender Lauren Hong in the final match.
In parallel, another prominent Qatari player, Othman Boularas, exhibited his skills in the men’s poomsae category, earning a well-deserved silver medal.
Furthermore, it is important to highlight that Othman Boularas is gearing up for the upcoming Asian Games, scheduled to take place between September 23 and October 8 in China. His focus will be on competing in the Poomsae category.
