Curated by Fifty One East and on until April 11, the exhibition showcases the latest collections from both local and regional designers, featuring a diverse array of meticulously crafted pieces tailored for the upcoming Ramadan season.

With 28 designers from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait participating, this is the fourth such exhibition bringing visitors a selection of intricately embroidered designs blending traditional charm with contemporary elegance.
QH provides the first look in a chit-chat with four of the designers whose collections are featured in the exhibition.

Why abaya design?

“Though the abaya design may seem limited, it’s integral to our broader suit collection. We incorporate abayas to cater to diverse client preferences, aiming for a comprehensive range appealing to a wide audience.”

Design evolution:

“I’ve explored, innovated, embraced new techniques, materials, and cultural heritage. This collection reflects this journey by blending traditional elements with contemporary aesthetics. I aim to push boundaries to resonate with the dynamic, empowered women I design for.”

Design inspiration:

The Whispers of Empowerment line draws inspiration from feminine strength, grace, and contemporary style, aiming to capture women’s multifaceted nature during the sacred month of Ramadan, emphasising empowerment and resilience.

Why abaya design?

“Focusing on the cultural significance and elegance of the abaya, despite its niche, resonates deeply, especially in the Arab Gulf. I honour tradition while infusing modern elements to keep it versatile yet functional, bringing in cultural relevance that connects with diverse audiences.”

Design evolution:

“To start with, I focused on traditional abayas, but as I gained insight, I experimented with fabrics and colours, integrating contemporary influences, to make my designs innovative and appeal to a broader audience. My journey in fashion is marked by growth, driven by creativity and meeting market demands.

Design inspiration:

I operate with dynamic fusion of diverse influences, including nature, art, culture, and architecture. Ultimately, my inspiration mirrors life’s rich tapestry, resulting in fashion that captivates visually and resonates emotionally.

“The abaya offers endless creative possibilities for us, celebrating as we do, its cultural significance while providing customers with a diverse range of styles and options. We also customise to individual preferences, thereby making it a timeless, versatile garment.”

“We evolved to meet changing trends, customer preferences, and textile advancements, offering a diverse range of modern looks with experimental cuts. With continuous innovation, we’ve retained our slot at the forefront of Qatar’s modest fashion industry.”

“We blend traditional Qatari culture, modern fashion trends, and diverse customer preferences, incorporating intricate embroidery, luxurious fabrics, and elegant cuts. We stay on top of global fashion movements to keep our designs relevant and appealing.”

Inspiration from fashion trends, culture, and feedback from clients shaped this evolution. Today, my designs strike a balance between tradition and modernity, featuring intricate details and personal expression.”

Inspired by Ramadan’s cultural significance, the collection reflects worship, family gatherings, and the joy of Eid. Drawing from local traditions and cultural heritage, it aims to capture the essence of this special time while showcasing the beauty and diversityof Gulf women.
