The Institute for Population Health (IPH) at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) recently held a workshop that successfully equipped 49 healthcare professionals with essential skills in health research.
The two-day workshop, led by IPH experts, blended lectures with interactive Q&A sessions to provide participants with a solid understanding of key epidemiology and biostatistics concepts.

Titled “Understanding Basics of Health Research,” the first day covered crucial topics such as healthcare research terminology, metrics for health and disease measurement, biostatistics, population sampling, and study design basics. The second day focused on clinical trial design, statistical significance, public health screening, and research interpretation.
The sessions were conducted by four esteemed IPH experts: Dr. Ravinder Mamtani, Dr. Sohaila Cheema, Dr. Karima Chaabna, and Dr. Amit Abraham, who brought their specialized knowledge in healthcare research to the program.

Dr. Cheema said: “We believe understanding basic epidemiology and biostatistics used in published literature is crucial for healthcare professionals to make informed, evidence-based decisions in clinical practice, leading to improved patient outcomes and population health. We are extremely gratified that several healthcare professionals joined us to learn these key skills and knowledge and very pleased that they engaged with great enthusiasm during the workshop.”
